Default Different Type of Weight Lifting.

I have been doing chin ups with weight (Dips too.) I have noticed that my strength has really increased. Anyone else do any other odd weightlifting?

I do a lot of standing calf raises. It's really built and bulked my calfs, and its given me a lot of strength whenever I am bouncing around. It helps keeps my toes very balanced and my calfs are able to carry my weight.

It helps me be able to run, and move swiftly and evasively.

I have also some calf raises in the past. It really helped me with jumping. I don't have any natural jumping ability. But I really noticed a differece. Probably need to start that back up again.

When I used to play basketball a while back I used to train and involve calf raises into my regime. Excellent for agility speed and strength. Perfect for making those tough lay up shots and slams.

From a MA perspective, exactly the same outcome. Perfect for increasing speed and agility.

One thing i really suggest is squats. What i do is put on a medium amount of weight, usually 135 pounds. Then do very quick bursts up and down, make sure you have a good posture. Go all the way to the ground each time. Trust me, if you can walk the next day then you are in great shape. These really helped me build my lower body, and i really feel a difference.

Hmm standing calf raises - what does this involve? My ankles are probably the weakest part of my body - would this help strengthen them?

Yeah this is called body lifting, its very good for getting cut/building strength/getting in shape without bulking up too much.

Some of you might have seen this, but to get a great workout for your forearms:

Take a wooden stick and tie a string to it in the middle...then hang a weight from the string...put your arms straight out and wind up the string so you're slowly lifting the weight...it burns about 3/4 of the way up...3-5 sets and your arms will be screaming

Hmm.... interesting - Ive never heard of this before - I think I will give this a go. How heavy should the weight be? I mean should it be weights you would normally bicep curl for example?

And back to the original post. I do chinups with a backpack with weights in it I find it reall targets your biceps, triceps, back and shoulders and gives you a proper good work out

I did this exercise before, the only way i could get the weight right was to start small and constantly add until i got the proper amount.
