Instead of replying to spam or a rude post, and instead of Private Messaging a moderator or admin, please take advantage of the "Report Post" button at the bottom of the member's profile box on the corresponding post.

The button is an image of a triangle with an exclamation mark inside. This will then notify all members and administrators of the post via e-mail and is much more convenient for everybody.
