Default Hughes faces GSP for interim WW title !!!

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More

link is above, anyhow i got to say this is amazing news. i am really looking forward to this card. with GSP filling in for serra this really makes for an awesome card. il be honest that the original card and main event i anticipated more just because i really really wanted to see serra beat in hughe's face but i guess either way we will all watch an awesome card. i personally think that fitch deserves this fight with georges more but what ever. it is what it is and hughes got the chance not my boy fitch. o well. i think georges is going to beat hughes and possibly see hughes vs fitch sometime next year.

i am hoping tha GSP takes the interim title and then defeats Serra in a unification bout next year.
Hughes has arguably had his time and i dont really think serra is that great and i hope GSP puts the defeat right

Can't wait.

I hope GSP smashes Hughes like he did last time and then avenges that loss against Serra.

Alright well im about to go on a rant so if you would listen and respond I would like to hear opinions.

First I'm going to give you my prediction. Im going to go with the same result as last time, GSP second round TKO. I mean at this point i think GSP has the ability to stuff any ones take down in the 170 pound division. He made Koscheck a phenominal wrestler, strugle with everything he had to take him down(1 time). Hughes will not submit him, certainly wont knock him out, and I really don't see much he can do. His best bet is to be relentless with the take down, and hope he some how gets GSP in a bad position and Continue to pressure and pressure him, but it just wont be his night.

This leads to the end of Matt Hughes' career. He said on the show he only had 2-3 more fights left in him but this is it. If he loses, which all indications say he will, he will never fight for the title again. There is no way he will be fighting GSP for a fourth time in his career(assuming GSP does beat Serra). If he loses there is nothing for Matt Hughes out there, i mean sure he can have a few fights but they will get him no where, when you have a line of contenders out the door waiting for a shot. This is a make or break point in his career, if he goes down hard I can't see him coming back behind the LINE of this stacked welter weight division.

This leads to the third point, with all do respect to Matt Serra, hes a great guy, great fighter, but just not on the level of GSP, he caught him and thats it. 9 out of 10 times GSP wins that fight. He didn't deserve a title shot, he deserved to be fighting great fighters, but when you have guys like Diego and Fitch going 6-0 against quality opponents and not getting title shots it doesn't make sense to why Serra did. So his next fight and his first title defense....? will be against GSP. And lets say he loses it was like he never was the champion.

So all this fight does is set a time machine back and GSP will be the champion and his reign will start again. DONE.

Good thoughts Matt. I tend to agree with just about all of that.

The only way that Hughes has a chance in this fight is to be relentless with his takedowns (which I think he will be), and not eat a head kick or knee on the way in. I think that the only place Hughes is better than GSP is his jitz, which I wouldn't say is even all that much better.

St. Pierre owns him on the feet and his wrestling is probably equal, not to mention GSP's takedowns are more explosive and his takedown defense is second to none. Hughes will have to keep working that takedown and hopefully get top position and smother him, but I honestly can't see him being able to do that either.

Lol I'm trying to convince myself of ways Hughes can win but I can't seem to do it. Fact is, St. Pierre is a better all-around fighter. He was way more tools to defeat Hughes than the other way around.

So I can definately see this being a make or break fight for Hughes. This division is way too deep for him to make his way back to the top if he loses, seeing as he only wants to fight 2-3 more times. Not to mention that the talent in the WW div is top notch, so who's to say that Hughes would even make his way past guys like Fitch, Kos, etc.

So basically what Matt E said is fairly true. Look at this as Hughes/GSP II, then GSP/Serra again...and we live happily ever after.

PS - Watch Hughes mop the floor with GSP now, thats my luck.

I think this match up is best for GSP also. He stated that he would like for both men to win their matchup between Hughes and Serra because he wants to face both of them again. And now he gets to. GSP beats Hughes and solitifies that win, and then he returns to beat Serra and regain his title. GSP FTW.

As far as Hughes being done in the UFC I think thats a possability, but a lot of fighters like Hughes don't stay retired for long. So wether Hughes will leave the UFC and fight for like Strikeforce or IFL or what not (I doubt that will really happen) or wether Hughes retires and in 1 year comes back knocking on the door (I see that happening a lot more) I don't think this will be the last we see of Matt Hughes. Could be wrong tho, but he's still young and thats a long time to be retired from competition when for your whole life you've lived to compete.

My prediction i've stated before. GSP by TKO due to strikes from GnP.

Ok here goes. GSP beats Hughes. GSP beats Serra. Hughes announces his fight with Serra will be his last UFC fight. Hughes comes back out of retirement to fight for the ww title against then belt holder...Butterbean. Of course I may be off just a bit with my predictions.
