Default news on Liddell and LW division

Been awhile since I've been back, so I don't know if this has a thread or not? But apparently the rumours of Chuck Liddell's retirement are false. Chuck is going to fight Shogun Rua next. Also ufcmania.com reports if Sean Sherk is stripped of his title, B J Penn will fight Joe Stevenson for the belt.

The rumors aren't false, he never stated that hes thinking of reitrement, just that he feels like he doesn't have the motivation any more. IMO he's just going through a phase and will be back and better then ever.

I think Chuck's problem is that he is fast becomming a dinosaur like so many other mma fighters. Fighters like Tito Ortiz, and Ken Shamrock. You need to evolve your game as a fighter. In other words mabye change from a counter puncher to a more aggresive style. Maybe add more ground skills instead of just college level wrestling. Get some submission work in.

Chuck like you said is a wrestler and his a purple belt in bjj, and im sure he grapples on a higher level. He does what works for him, the reason he had one 7 fights in a row is because is style poses a threat to so many fighters.

But i do agree, he needs to become more of an agressor the a counter fighter, but that one big right hand he has is so affective but it has to be landed first, he came so close, but so close is not close enough, he needs to step it up and the time is now.

Agreed and if you were to check and see who is listed as the greatist power puncher in mma Chucks name would come up alot. So if just adjusted his style a little to be more agressive he would be an almost completely different fighter. Imagine what that would be like.

I think Chuck was pretty gun shy in his fight with Jardine. I think it sucks for him to have back to back losses, but a lot of great fighters have lost fights they shouldn't have, for what ever reasons. I think Chuck will come back and be a big threat in any division.

He could be a WAND and get smashed twice in a row?

I don't blame him for sitting and waiting this last fight, regardless of who he was fighting. Anyone can win at this level - GSP/Serra anyone?

exactly. Wand, Randy, and BJ Penn have all lost back to back fights. And they are all still concidered great. It's what you do AFTER those losses. Remember that MMA fans are so incredibly fair weathered that if you lose once you suck, if you win once your on the road to being a champion and probably deserve a title shot in most fans minds. Chuck beats a guy like Lambert and we'll see posts about how he's the #1 contender soon.
