Sounds like something I did in football back in my High School days. It does work pretty well and will definitely get you to start working your feet a lot more. We used to to line shuffle etc. and keep us ... literally on our toes.
Never applied to to fighting though, I guess I'll have to.
I remember doing this in highschool football training, it was very effective. Just make sure that the dots are spaced far enough apart that it gives you a good burn about halfway through.
A great way to develop this is basic line drills where you put your feet together and jump back and forth over a line a bunch of times...there are also many variations...its a real workout.
I have done a different variation of this in almost every martial art I have studied. I think its vital to have quick feet in amost any sport/martial art so its well with incorporating this into your workouts.
What you should do is do the drills 1-2 times with the weights, then take them off and try it. The difference is amazing and you will feel extremely agile.
Makes sense. I do a similar thing with weight's in my hands while throwing punches and then without.
