Default Worth it to train Boxing?

Do you guys think it's worth it to do some boxing training for a stand up fighter? I don't see any disadvantages of it, but I'm on a little bit of a budget, and I want to make sure that I'm allocating my funds correctly.

Would you guys recommend this?

Yes. I think that if you train in boxing, especially if you are stand up fighter, you'll gain a lot of benefits. You'll learn to control your strength and speed, as well as increasing your all around style and technique.

This is a no brainer from me. Go out, and register immediately.

Yea Bryan, I'd highly recommend you to do it. Just because, you can't go wrong with it. If you can find a decent - good coach for boxing, you're going to be well on your way.

One thing to keep in mind though, is that boxing doesn't train you to resist and prepare for strikes of another kind, such as lunges, kicks, or tackles. So just make sure that you're well rounded.

Why not? If you can afford it, then do it. Otherwise, think twice about it. There's nothing wrong with learning more things and adding to your playbook.

My opinion of boxing is that it can do wonders for your guard. Even if you prefer to stay away from standup, gaurd is crutial. I see way too many fighters go down qucikly just because they can't keep their fists up.

Definitely a good idea to get some quality boxing training to make your standup better technique wise and as someone already pointed out it will help your defenses on the feet as well..

Great for footwork and ring movement also.

There you have it Bryan. Votes are in. You cant go wrong, just make sure you have the right coach or instructor.

Start with keeping your hands in tight. (tip)

I think the best MMA fighters are fighters with a Boxing background. Look at Phil Baroni and Vitor Belfort. Great strikers.

boxing is a great piece of the puzzle. it helps to train in every aspect of fighting. the more training you have the more well rounded you will be. plus i feel that boxing is great for working on your cardio. not to mention that it is a great feeling to knock someone out.
