Hmm....just enough time to post something.

Kicks are the bomb. I grew up on Karate, and it's a staple in fighting, Kumite, etc...Kicks are the best defense by far in creating distance between you and your opponent. I've given some pretty crazy kicks, front kick, roundhouse, etc...that I worked on when taking Muay Thai - that only strengthened my kicks.

I couldn't imagine fighting without them. Especially more so in a fight that happens on the street.90% of the time I'm using knees and kicks in combination to create distance. Again, it's situational, but I couldn't imagine not using them in a fight.

To answer the thread topic... Absolutely, any fighter who knows how to kick properly is always fun to watch. Also for self defense they are excellent. Nobody who's trying to mug you will expect you to do a tornado kick and hit them in the face.

Kicks are vital in the arsenal of fighters. Look at most of the top fighters and you will find they are all very good at kicks. Kicks, even if you choose not to use them in fight, if your opponent knows the threat is there it gives them one more thing to worry about. Kicks are a GREAT way to setup for punches. It takes the attention away from your hands and if used well pulls your opponents hands down as well.
The problem is that kicking is just as hard if not harder to be proficient at than boxing. Just cuz you can throw your foot out doesnt mean you've got good kicks. Most guys you see that really hurt people are guys that have been training in karate/kickboxing/Thai for a looooong time. When someone like a wrestler or BJJ background tries to throw kicks they often look sloppy and are slow and inacurate and thats when an opponent can take advantage.
GSP throws a great kick from his front leg. Its quick and hard and people know that and give him space because of it.

Kicks are great to use. Its just that many fighters dont take the time to judge the distance and the techniqe for them as much as they should. They work to much on the power behind it.

I use all the kicks because if you trick someone into think ur ganna throw a low kick you can go upstairs to the body or head....And if you land a clean head kick it will be over almost everytime.
