Default Which punch first?

Whenever I am setting up a combination, I like to hit with my non dominant hand first, just to phase then, and then hopefully come in for the knock out with my dominant hand.

However, I know many fighters that like to lead with their dominant hand first in hopes of severely dazing them, and then going all out.

What do you guys prefer to do first and why?

I lead with my dominant. This is really just instinct and habit though, and to be honest, I don't really think about it, or have a "pre set" combo. It's sort of just on the spot.

But when it comes down to it, I try to lead with my dominant so that way I can bring in my weaker one after the bigger one has connected.

I definitely lead with my weaker one. That's just so in case I miss, I can counter with my dominant one. If I put all my swing and power into my first punch, and I miss...well, I'm going to get clobbered.

I'll be able to just pull away with my non dominant hand.

How often do you guys miss when leading with your dominant hand? And in turn, recieve a horrible blow? I would assume it was a high number...

I don't get countered too often. Don't get me wrong, I have been hit hard from a counter because of that, but it doesn't happen to often. I'm not going for a haymaker or a quick KO, I just feel more comfortable leading out with my dominant hand.

It's not like I'm putting my entire weight on it leaving me compromised...

I usually lead out with my non dominant hand first. This way, I can get back quick, and launch a strong counter punch if I need too.

Also, I put a lot of strength into my dominant hand. It's to much a risk to miss and leave yourself vulnerable to a huge counter.

Always lead with the weaker hand in my opinion - and then follow it up with the stronger one. It'll make a bigger hit, and be much more effective.

I agree with the leading with the weaker hand and then following up with the big bomb.

I love the left jab then the big right hook.

I'm right handed but I swing mostly with my left. Jabs with my left and hooks with my right. I like to jab with my left most of the time to keep them backed.

It really all depends on the situation. In a street fight most people you fight will some at you with a huge knock out punch, so i say the best punch you can use is the right straight. Follow it up with a left hook, excellent combo.

However if you are boxer then id say don't keep throwing the same combos or your opponent will figure you out and get you.

But to answer your question id say work on the right straight, it really is a great punch, even if you want to throw a jab in front of it to throw your opponent off. That is unless yo uare left handed, in which case it would obviously be your left straight. It is also very esy to throw a left kick either to the head or liver, or even the knee of your opponent, after you throw the right straight.
