Default Buentello challenges Kimbo

Article taken from MMAweekly.com

On Monday night, Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello made a special appearance on MMAWeekly Radio to issue a challenge to rising EliteXC star Kimbo Slice for a fight that already has mixed martial arts fans chattering about on the Internet.

“People want to see it. I think everybody wants to see it. Me and Kimbo should lace up the gloves,” said Buentello. “Everybody wants to see it and I think it’s time. He’s fighting all the guys I’ve already knocked out and I’ve already exposed. He needs to get off that buffet line I put out there and come over to my Paul Buentello taco shop and see if we can get to work.”

There were rumors of a fight between the two heavyweights after Buentello commented on a Kimbo street fight just a year ago and fans began to clamor and wonder if they would ever meet.

“Everybody asks me ‘when are you going to fight Kimbo? You should fight that Kimbo guy,’” said the American Kickboxing Academy fighter. “Just give him much respect, he’s been training and accomplished a lot in a year or so. He’s really putting his hands together, he’s really putting his game plan together.”

Buentello says he respects Kimbo’s growing MMA game and guarantees a slugfest would ensue.

“I give him much respect. He stepped up. He went from street fighting to MMA and everybody thought he couldn’t produce, but he’s doing it,” stated Buentello.

“If I was a fan, I would definitely, I would want to see this fight. I would pay money to watch Paul Buentello fight Kimbo in a heartbeat.”

He confirmed on the show that he would be competing on the upcoming March 29 Strikeforce card, although no opponent has been named yet.

After that fight, Buentello believes he should be the next match-up for the YouTube sensation known as Kimbo Slice.

“I’m just throwing the offer out there,” he said. “I know he’d take the offer in a heartbeat, but he does have management.”

For now Buentello will head back into training and prepare for his nest fight on March 29

I would love to see this fight. I just watched all of Kimbos MMA fights and he has looked very good considering he has trained for only 1 year or so. ALso he has gotten alot better in everyone of his fights. Buentello though is a dangerous striker with long reach. He would deffinetly be the biggest test Kimbo has faced yet.

Paul's one of my fav fighters. When his website had forums set up, I used to visit them all of the time. He was on one night and dug what me and another guy were posting, he asked us to PM him our addresses.
He mailed me one of his headhunter t-shirts from Cali all the way to Ottawa!

I'm a fan of his for life. Funny and classy guy. I hope he ends the sensation Kimbo Slice in the 1st round!

Thats awesome. I have never even heard of anything like that. I know if that happened to me id be a fan of that fighter for life too.

Im pretty sure if this fight happened Buentellos would hit Kimbo harder than he has ever been hit before. Would be a slugfest for sure.

Tank said he hit Kimbo with a good shot and didn't move so Kimbo would be a tough fight for Paul but I think he's skilled enough with his striking to get a KO shot in and put Kimbo to sleep.

I think Paul poses a lot of problems for Kimbo. As seen in his first to fights he likes to get inside and use that dirty boxing in the clinch and scrambles. I think he will be at the end of all Pauls punches and will probably go down some time in the second round. But with a good gameplan could do well, but if Paul comes in tip top shape its gonna be a long night for Kimbo.

I think Paul is a great matchup for Kimbo at this point. He's not a tomato can, but he's not a top HW either. He's really not going to pose Kimbo a lot of problems as far as taking him down and subbing him, he's going to stand and slug.

Also, Paul won't gas out in 30 seconds like Tank did and he's not going to turtle up like Cantrell. This fight should be a good indicator of Kimbo's gas tank and his chin, because Paul will put both to the test.

I'm taking Paul by way of Kimbo's fear of the consequences.

I gotta say i'm gunna go with Kimbo in this fight. Paul is a great K-1 fighter because of his height and reach but he's a semi sloppy HW. I've never been that impressed with his stand up and it seems to me like he refuses to go lift some weights. Talent is great and all but Kimbo is a really good boxer and with his size and strength if kimbo wants this fight on the ground thats where it will end up. And I see him taking Paul there if he starts to look in trouble. He could easily GNP Paul out or just destroy him. I gotta say Kimbo's ability to wait for the right punch has been improving.
