Default Fighter of the year

I'm going to make a list of fighters who I think are well deserving of being considered the fighter of the year. Im going to make a case for all of them. You can pick one or add some one else to your list.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson: In his first fight in the octagon he knocked out Eastman in round 2, then later went on to Knocking off Chuck Lidell, the seven time reigning champion in the first round. He later unified the championship belts by taking dan henderson in 5 round decision to be the univerisal champion.

Randy "the natural" Cotoure: After being an underdog in 2 of his comeback fights he quickly stepped in the ring and made work of Tim Sylvia and beating him up for 5 rounds. He later stepped in with the new mma sensation and destroyed Gabriel Gonzaga for three rounds, then ended it with a rear naked choke.

Anderson "the spider" Silva: Definently well worthy of being fighter of the year. Even though he fought, some one who was not worthy of a title shot. He submitted the better ground fighter early on in the second round. But what was most impressive is how he beat Nate Marquardt, being introuble in the first round, he quickly held his own on the ground, stood the fight up knocked nate down, and pounded him out on the ground. This was a fight that people thought he might have a lot of trouble with but he was very impressive. He then later went on to defend his title for the third time in one year(kinda) by taking apart Franklin like he did before.

Rameau "The African Assassin" Sokoudjou: Potentially the surprise/breakout fighter of the year. He was thrown in the ring against 2 of the best LHW in the world, potentially 2 top 5 LHW. Call it a fluke against Nogueira or not, fighters get caught in MMA and thats what happened being knocked out in the first round. Then later made quick work of Arona, by also knocking him out in the first round. If he beats Machida in impressive fashion then he for sure will be the fighter of the year.

Roger "El Madator" Huerta : People might not like this pick, and i was reluctant to put him up here, but heres why. Regardless of who hes fought, hes 5-0. Going 5-0 in one year against professional fighters regardless of your opponent is, it is not something easy to do. He was constantly training and keeping healthy.

Other candidates: Franky Edgar, Jon Fitch, Joe stevenson, Kenny Florian, Nick Shields, JZ.

Calvan has done a phenomenal job this year along with Couture and Anderson.

But I'm going to have to go with Rampage, he's been absolutely phenomenal this year, I can't wait to see him fight again.

Good choices all. I'm going with Anderson Silva for fighter of the year. As for why...I think Anderson showed us this year that he's about as close to mma perfection as one will find in the UFC. Most people know him as a striker. Although we know he has a BB in BJJ most of the time a strikers BJJ skill is lackluster. Not so with the spider. By submitting Travis Lutter on the ground and grappling with Nate Marquardt Anderson Silva proved he is just as capable on the ground as he is on his feet.

For the 2007 year I have to go with Anderson Silva. Not only did he defeat all of his competition, but he finished every fight in convincing fashion, including a second brutal TKO of the former 185 pound champ Rich Franklin.

The guy simply takes care of business in the octagon and afterwards is nothing but class. While others have been impressive, particularly Rampage, I still don't think that anyone has been as thoroughly dominant as A. Silva, and for that I think he should be fighter of the year.
