Default Does Huerta Deserve a title shot at Penn or Stevenson

Do you think Roger Huerta deserves a shot at the lightweight belt when he gets back after his 6 to 8 month break?

Not one bit, taking nothing away from Roger, he just isn't ready for what Penn, Stevenson, or sherk would have to offer to him; I also think fighters like Florian, Edgar, and Griffin are all more than capable of beating Roger.

Even though he did beat Guida, taking nothing away from him, he didn't do to well against his first top opponent. He was taken down at will and had alot of trouble getting back up. He definently impressed me with his Heart and dedication; and his willingness to come back from the brick of defeat and win, but by no means is he ready for a title shot. If he were able to enter that fight and dominat Guida, then we could potentially consider him, but as of now hes good where he is, let him fight Edgar or Florian and if he beats them in impressive fashion then a title shot should definently be considered.

I really just think he's the jack of all traits but the ace of none. Theres no situation where opponents have to truely fear him. Just that when you come to fight him, you better be prepared to give everything hes has in him, because if you dont you will lose.

Personally I agree with you. But do you think Joe Silva might consider him for a title shot given that he has become "the flavor of the month." I mean to say Huerta is good as far as fighters go, but not great. And that we have seen certain fighters receive more favorable treatment in the past. Can we say Nate Quarry? And I like Nate but it was way to early for that title shot. I'm wondering if we may see this kind of thing happen with Huerta.

No i really dont think that will happen with Huerta, in Quarry's case he was 1 of the only legit contenders at the time, and he still wasn't even suit to fight for the title. He was just kind of some one with a big name from TUF that they decided to throw to give Franklin a title defence because their was no one out there.

I think Joe Silva is smart enough to know that Huerta isn't ready for a shot at this time, i mean hes still only 24 and he has a lot of potential to grow. If he is able to win his next 2 maybe even three fights impressivly then he will be deserving of a title shot at late 2008 or early 2009.

I also believe that Roger isn't ready for a title shot. And not to say he isn't good. But for the same reasons stated above, he just hasn't beaten the best of people and when he did beat Guida it was more Guida loosing than Huerta winning.

I also think the difference in Quarry pre Franklin and Huerta now is that Quarry was finishing every fighter in the 1st, and there was no competition for Franklin. You had Quarry beat Shoni, hand Pete Sell his first loss and by questionable KO, and do so in dominating fashion. So thats the difference.

Huerta deserves a title fight after he beats on of the UFC's top LW's. I would really like to see him fight Spencer Fisher, or Guillard or even the loser of Penn vs. Stevenson.

Until Huerta beats a ranked fighter i dont think he deserves a title fight.

i dont think he deserves a title shot right now at all. of course takin nothing away the guy had an insane 07. he will go on and hopefully fight some faster fights in 08. but really i hope he goes through some sort of latter like this to get to a title//

melvin guillard_ melvin guillard
rich clementi

tyson griffen_ tyson griffen
gleison tibau

bj penn_ bj penn
joe stevenson

roger huerta_ franky edgar

joe louzon_ joe louzon
kenny florian

nate diaz_ duane ludwig

thiago tavares_ thiago tavares

by the way this is just some sort of prediction web and toward the bottom are some contenders i think should fight. if joe silva lined up the LW matches like this for next year the champion would be completely undisputed. then again there are other true contenders i never mentioned. sherk, franca, i.e

this is kind of off subject but apperently joe louzon and florian have negotiations about a fight. funny they were a fight on my list but anyhow i still stand by my pick. i dont think this fight is official but i definetely think it should be and the winnder should fight huerta next for a title shot. not to mention it would be a great sell for the UFC

huerta sells as we see he has big fan base, but he not proven to be a top contender for the title yet,. i want see him and spencer fisher go at it. or have florian and spencer go at it and he fight the winner of that fight.

but we will see him fight for it one day for sure.
