Default Does Jake shields Belong in the ufc?

This was a quote from ufcmania.com.

“I want to go out there and fight the best. I’m really looking at UFC over Elite because that is where a lot of top guys are. In the next few weeks I’ll probably make my decision on where I’m going to be signing…. Have [talked to the UFC] in the past. I’m sure we’re going to talk to them in the next week before we sign anything with Elite. I’m ready to get in there with the top guys. With the Rumble on the Rock tournament and EliteXC and my last four or five fights have been top come and have been fast, easy fights. I think it definitely shows I belong there.”

I think Jake Shields is a great fighter, the guys got Top level Bjj, he has also looked very good in his last fights walking through his last few opponents and he also has beaten alot of top fighters in the past, also tooled Jon Fitch is a grappling math which isn't easy to do. If he were to go into the ufc they would have 9 of 10 ten top WW , it could create potential huge fights for a long time to come.

Jake Shields is an excellent fighter, I for one would love to see him in the UFC.

Theres only so much competition he can face over in Elite XC, Daley possibly Trigg providing one of the guys fights at the others weight (Not even sure if Trigg is signed). Would be a great move for Shields and the UFC.

id rather see him stay in elite xc and help that brand build its self up to UFC's status. either way i dont see him doing well in UFC's WW division anyway. being the most stacked division i see shields losing to serra, gsp, fitch, and hughes. shields would match up well against burkman though

Don't be so quick to count Shields out, he has great wrestling credentials and is a BJJ brown or black belt (Not sure but I think he's a black belt). He holds a grappling victory over Fitch, and holds MMA wins over very good fighters like Okami, Sakurai and Carlos Condit.

Shields would be a great addition, the guys definately one of the top guys in the world, to prove he is one of the best he needs to leave Elite XC and join the UFC , which he has said in the article he'd like to do.

Yeah Jamie I agree with everything you said, and your right him and Nick Diaz are Cesar Gracies only 2 American Black belts. I just think it goes with what he said, he walked over all of his competition in EliteXc and is looking for a better challenge.

When your a fighter you need to accomplish more goals and move on to bigger and better things, not just sit and continue to win fight after fight easily. Because then whats the point in even competing? For the money, but theres alot of passion behind in this sport.

oh im not counting shields out at all lol.. this is mma after all i know just as good as the next guy anyone can win. still though i should have said that as of this moment i couldnt see him doing well. shields is a tough guy i would never deny his skills are up there but still iv seen all of those fights u mentioned in the past jamie and really he didnt win in amazing fashion or anything. also its not really considered a huge accomplishment when a bjj bb submits a brownbelt. which fitch was just awarded lol. sakurai and him was a great display of bjj and judo. but the fight with okami could have gone the other way, seein as how he was also an underdog who came in overweight lol. also condit was a great fight but condit is the WEC's joke champion many people count HIM out of the UFC's WW division even though i believe he has just about the same chances of doing well as shields. but yea either way he walked all over charuto, i mean how many fights has he had in elite xc 2, 3 lol? shields is just thinking about the money thats a part of the UFC. also MATT its kind of hard to believe that someone who has never fought could know you need to accomplish more goals and move on to bigger and better things, not just sit and continue to win fight after fight easily. Because then whats the point in even competing.

LOL it doesn't take some one half retarded to know that fighters want to live a full career and set goals, then accomplish them. What do you think every fighters goal is? To be the best they can, fight the best competition, AND ONE DAY become CHAMPION.

I dont have to train to know that fighters dont just compete for the hell of it? Or is there something you know that i dont?
