Default The MMA Guys Tried Sambo

Lastnight we had a Russian come in and show us a little Sambo. Like most styles it had its good points and somethings that was not "Our thing". He did give us a intense warmup. He also showed us a few nasty leg locks. So overall we enjoyed the class. We did get something out of it.

Anyone else take Sambo or has anyone tried?

I have thought about training in Sambo ever since the first time I watched Oleg Taktarov fight in the early UFC's. It has obviously helped the Emelianenko bros.

No doubt...Oleg definately had me interested too...now he's acting.LoL. I thought he was going to out Edward Burns in a Leg Lock.

Seriously, I've always heard that the striking in Sambo is weak. Without defining what I mean by this or comparing another form/art, let me know your personal feedback having experienced it.

Diggler,

The experience was pretty good. We wouldn't make it one of our top picks, however we did take in one or two moves. So for that it was worth the 2 hours. We did not do any strikes as you mentioned.

When I used to compete in judo before I started training MMA and muay thai, alot of the technique was alike with Sambo unless you're competing in Combat Sambo (allows strikes)

Here is a High Light video if SSF fighter Johnathan Ivey, he has more leg lock victories then anyone ever;

I love leg locks and can pull them most of the time. Johhathan is a master at them.

LoL. Just read my previous post!

I've been doing Combat Sambo for 2 months now, and I think it's awesome. I've got a little BJJ in there too every 3-4th class or so, so it's nice to mix up, but Sambo is pretty fuckin cool...
