I am currently studying...

Hapkido
Boxing
Kick Boxing
Wrestling
and BJJ

Nothing to extensive or fluid, just a bunch of "stern" techniques. I'm a power fighter and I tend to try to stay on my feet. BJJ training is just for knowledge.

I've gotten my ass kicked by someone who studied Kung Fu intensely. I have a lot of respect for Kung Fu artists. Very fluid motion and difficult for an opponent to anticipate moves.

I have at some point in my life studied Shotokan Karate, Kickboxing, Judo, Tai Kwon do and Ju Jitsu. I am a master of none but a jack of all trades Karate would be my strongest as it was main focus. I am hopefully going to start Kung Fu soon, ive been slacking for around a year now on my martial arts - focusing more on health and fitness but I think its time I started again

I am currently actively training in Jujitsu and Karate - both for the past 4 years. I have also spent 2 years training in Judo and Tae Kwon Do and just under a year in Thai Boxing and Capoeira.

As I previously said in the thread How many styles? I study Tae Kwon Do, Shorin Ryu karate, and Uechi Ryu karate.

I have been training in Tae Kwon Do for the past 9 years, Shorin Ryu for the past 4, and Uechi Ryu for several months.

Hey Matt -

Do you like Tae Kwon Do? I'm interested in taking it, but stayed a little far away from it because it's got the same stereotype as karate...as a mainstream useless martial art.

To be honest, I love Tae Kwon Do and I recommend it to anyone willing to practice every day. But just like any martial art, Tae Kwon Do can be a useless martial art if you do not practice it adequetly.

The main reason Tae Kwon Do and Karate are thought of as useless martial arts is because, since they are so popular, many people get their black belts and discontinue practicing the art. This in turn generates many people that have black belts and are horribly martial artists. I think it's something like 1 in 500 people continue practicing Karate after receiving their black belt, which is a shame.

Anyways, this influences the way people look at these two arts. They see so many black belts who are truly horrible in these two styles that they stereotype the whole style as useless (which it is not).

I've been watching Tae Kwon Do and readnig up on it, and it seems very interesting. The videos of it are amazing, and the kicks and strikes are nice, complex, and fluid.

There seems to be a lot of misdirection used with Tae Kwon Do, but never the less, it's beautiful. I'm trying to find the perfect instructor in my area, but have not been able to.

I studied Tae Kwon Do and got a black belt. I've stopped now. However, I still very much respect those who continue to pursue martial arts and am still facinated and love to watch it.
