I don't think it's a good idea. Teachers in schools these days have enough trouble handling kids without introducing arm locks and guillotine chokes. There's no guarantee that each kid will gain discipline from it. The way it is now if a kid doesn't become disciplined the sensei will not allow him to be a part of that facility any longer.

Actually back in the day(the '70's and '80's possibly earlier too) in America there were after school programs kids could take. At some schools kids could learn Judo, for free. However in the '80's Ronald Reagan cancelled all the government funded after school programs. However at every high school in the U.S. kids can join the wrestling team. And last time I checked wrestling is a martial art.

for the gracie family, jui-jitsu is taught as a "game" to the gracie children and babys. there for as they get older and older the sport comes in a sense fluent for them

Yes it is a great idea to teach the martial arts in secondary school, actually in other countries they teach even those in grades school.
I think it can develope self esteem to the kids, and it is right to teach them some self defense.

yes it is a great idea.it would be great exercise and good for learning discipline.it has been the goal of many martial arts to spread worldwide so that everyone has confidence and less fear in society.i would support that idea and hope that it happens world wide someday.

Martial Arts is no different than wrestling or Football. There is contact in both sport and the ability to get injured. You could in fact teach kickboxing and never have the students actually spar and make contact with one another.

As long as the teacher is is a certified instructor in whatever form he is teaching I say *thumbsup*

I think it'd be great for them to learn starting in elementry school. If they start to wait until jr. high and highschool some kids will immediately take what they learned in 2nd period and use it on some other kid at school. I just think the immaturity is too high for a teenager to resist unless he has been raised in the martial art and taught how to control himself.

Thats like saying a football halfback is gonna tackle people in the hallways or someone who does wrestling is going to around giving people suplex's on lunch break. Its not art its the person behind it in my opinion.
