Honestly man, all i bought for gear was some sweat shorts. Most gyms have gloves and everything for you to use.

If you want to set up your own miniature version at home though you can easily enough get a heavy bag and hang it in the garage, buy some boxing gloves and practice there.

I still recommend taking the classes though, you will learn so much little stuff you would have never figured out on your own. get some real power behind your punches and kicks.

Well they wont just let you fight. They will make sure you are more than prepared then they will throw you in the ring or cage. I trained for less than a month and never got to do more than spar with someone else.

Have patience, it's not easy, and it's certainly not as easy as the pros make it look. You will puke and you will get your ass kicked and you will accidentally get hit in the face and have a swollen nose or eyes for work some days, lol. I thought it was great fun, but after you do it you realize that you want to train as much as you can before you actually fight someone else.

For me right now, if i were to start training today i would want at least a year of training before i got in the cage or ring with someone. That's jsut me though.

What do the rest of you guys think?

Make sure you get a cup. Sometimes hurts when someone is passing half guard and knees you right in the ballsack.

Like Robert said though mate the best thing to do is to try and find a specific MMA gym to all aspects of the game. Google is your best friend, just search MMA gyms where you are from, go down one day and just inquire ask a few questions, price, training times and so on.

Most the guys will be real welcoming and will go a bit easy on you untill you start getting good, but you do get the guys that want to make an example of you, but it's all in good fun.
