I have also always used mirrors for the same reason that Bryan stated. However I also do Lion Dancing and have found it harmful. When practings stacks I caught myself cheating and watching where my feet landed on the other person.

But over all I think they are a good thing. I use them as a tool more than a weight.

Mirrors are a great tool to improve on your form and technique. I have mirrors set up all around, and while I'm at the gym, I ALWAYS look in the mirror to look at my work out technique.

I do know what you mean though when you say you catch yourself "cheating" and looking where your opponent will strike. But that's just something you just have to try and control.

I was not cheating while fighting. No time for that, lol. But I also do Chinese Lion Dancing. So I was watching where my feet would land during stacks. Which you can't do while doing a demo. But other than that I think they are a great tool.

I agree with Bryan...there are mirrors so you can make sure your form is right. That's why they are in gyms as well. If you are doing something wrong, you'll develop improper habits.

I use the mirrors more to make sure I have got my form correct. You get to see if the technique is how it should be, sometimes I feel like im doing something right but looked in the mirror and it has been wrong.

I think platinum is spot on there - I find dojo mirrors excellent to check my technique and form all the time.
