Default How to get rid of a stitch?

Hi,

Does anyone have any methods/tips for getting rid of a stitch? I tend to get them when I go on a log run more than anything and all I have found helps so far is to bend over and breath slowly - but this isnt that effective - anyone have any words of wisdom?

Stitch meaning a Cramp?

Cramps come from overbreathing and over eating. Stopping and bending over will only make it worse. What i would suggest is you change your breathing technique too breathing in with the nose and out with the mouth. This should slow your overbreathing and you shouldn't experience many cramps.

Yeah back in highschool i would get cramps alot, and i never knew why. I figured i was overeating. When my teacher told me that it could be my breathing i laughed at first, but after i tried it i was a believer :P

Cramps are caused from IMPROPER breathing and not drinking enough. Make sure you get plenty of water before, during, and after your workout. Also, your breathing needs to be consistent and in rhythm with your body...you have to figure this part out.

Yep make sure you stay properly hydrated and breath properly. I was always taught at school by my Gym teacher however to bend over and slow your breathing if you do get a stitch to make it go quicker.

Hrmm.. I never heard to bend down, i heard that closed your lungs and actually increased the cramping.

Yeah I wouldnt bend over if i had a stitch - more like stand up straight - head high and take deep breaths. Ive found this works best for me on the rare occasion I get a stitch. Stay hydrated and breath properly and you shouldnt get them

I've never heard of the word stitch ... have first, I thought you were talking about leg splints which is referring to the immense pain you get when you run too much and the "shock" effect from the legs hitting the concrete makes your legs ache and your shins hurt.

Cramps is caused by breathing? even if you're not doing anything but sitting and you randomly get a cramp?
