Default HIIT for MMA

Hi, I have some questions regarding MMA I hope you can help me out with.

First a little background info. I have been using treadmill HIIT for quite a while with some good success. My main goal is to improve my conditioning for amateur MMA, with a secondary goal of fat loss.

I had been doing a 9.5mph sprint for 30sec and a 6mph recovery for 90sec for 7 total intervals (14min total on treadmill). This got relatively easy so I decided to increase my speeds to 10mph for 30sec and 7mph for 90sec. This has proven EXTREMELY difficult for some reason. I can only get through 3 or 4 intervals before either my lungs or legs (or both) give out.

Here are my questions:

1. Should I continue to try this more difficult HIIT program? Or should I go back to the original program that I was able to complete? Or should I find a middle ground?

2. What should be the optimal difference between my sprint speed and recovery speed? I know HIIT usually asks you to look at heart rates to determine this, but I am just wondering if anyone more experienced than myself has a general answer.

3. What should be my ultimate goal in terms of speeds, durations, and intervals in order to perform at my best for three 3 minute rounds (amateur MMA)?

I understand that not everyone is the same and some answers are dependent on a variety of factors, but if you could please try to answer my questions as best as possible, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Don't really do any treadmill interval training but i do highly recommend training to failure. But, if you're failing after 5 minutes then drop the time. Maybe increase it by 5 seconds every third session until you hit your desired time. I always remember someone telling me anything over 20 minutes is good (especially high intensity).

I basically train one session a week were i want to vomit afterwards, not a good feeling but my cardio is pretty darn good.

Good look with it anyway.
