Default Over rated?

Some people really think that BJJ is over rated. They say so because its starting to be come the "whored" art of MMA. With the growing popularity of MMA, many are starting to train BJJ which means that a need for more instructors is wanted...meaning that it may become so mainstream it may meet the same fate as Karate.

Do you guys agree with this?

I don't think it's over rated at all. It's extremely popular for a reason, and while I do see what you're saying about it getting around, I don't think that it will get as mainstream as karate.

The reason? It takes a lot of patience, practice, and knowledge to excel at BJJ, and you won't be able to teach BJJ to the mainstream "wannabe" fighters. It's simply to complex.

It might just be around here locally, but I see a lot of training BJJ fighters and their instructors. Their instructors are not that great, and I feel bad because they aren't getting the education and training they should be getting, which lead me to post this topic.

I really think it's starting to be over rated because it isn't AS GOOD as people make it out to be. It's simply a base, and common knowledge now..

It could be where you are locally. I think BJJ isn't over rated. It's a very strong base to learn, and it's a very complex art that you can never stop learning from.

The only reason one could think it was over rated is because of the growing popularity of it. But even then, it takes years to learn and master, and in my opinion, is no where near being "over rated".

The style itself isn't overrated but the problem is that most people underestimate the difficulty of it.

I don't think its the difficulty that is underestimated. I'm sure there are people out there who feel that BJJ is a lot easier then say Capoeira, but theres no real comparison.

BJJ is a very complex art to learn, and i don't know anyone out there who underestimates it.

BJJ will NEVER be over rated. Simple fact being that it is a very difficult art to master. Many people will always try it out, but fail miserbly because of it's complex form.

BJJ is a very powerful tool if utilized correctly. I don't think that it's over rated one bit, and those that do, are in a for a big suprise when they are matched up against a decent BJJ focused fighter.

I can see how someone wants to say that BJJ is over rated, but thats only because its in the hands of an inexperienced BJJ fighter. If you take a decent BJJ fighter, it'll be obvious that BJJ is one of the most useful arts around.

Not like Karate...lol.

Definately not.

The differnce between Karate and BJJ is HUGE.

How often do you see Fighters stressing Karate training? Yet for most fighters BJJ is becoming a solid foundation base you NEED to have.

BJJ is NOT over rated at all. It's an essential art that almost all MMA fighters will need to learn at one point or another in their careers. It's got a lot of things to offer especially to those who aren't to experienced in any other submission or grappling based fighting techniques.
