Boxing vs MMA?
Has anyone seen any good fighters that have boxing skills or excel at it in an MMA match? Sure I've seen a lot of decent and talented stand up fighters, but I've yet to see one that actually concentrates on boxing.
I think it is because boxing is inferior when compared with MMA. Do you think that any professional boxer would even have a slight chance versus an average (not good) MMA fighter?

I think there were 2 really good fighters who were boxing oriented in Pride - but I can't recall their names. They were pretty good, and decent, and were heavy KOer's.
However, if you match up a great boxer with a decent - mediocre MMA fighter, I think the MMA fighter would get punished. The boxer would be to quick against a submission fighter in my opinion.
However, if you set up a good MMA fighter, he'd work wonders against any boxer. That's just my opinion. Boxers aren't trained for the type of fighting MMA does, and MMA is used to jabs, punches, etc (stand up).
You can't really compare the two, its like apples and oranges.

Yea, I guess you can't really compare the two, though it's pretty tempting. I think, as opposed to what you've said, you can place a great boxer...let's take Roy Jones Jr. - pit him against a decent MMA fighter, and I don't think that Roy Jones would last.

See I think you're wrong there. If you put Roy Jones up against someone ... from say, TUF, I think they'd get punished. Roy Jones is a GREAT fighter, he's got quick reaction time, and he knows when to anticipate blows. I don't think that he'll get handed, and I'm sure that he'll be the one doing the beating.
I feel as if MMA fighters aren't conditioned to take on someone of Roy Jone's calibre and power. I mean, one haymaker and they'll be down for the count.

You really think that Roy Jones would dominate a decent MMA fighter? I don't think so. I think if you put Roy Jones up against a decent grappler/submission fighter, Roy Jones wouldn't have a clue what to do on the ground.

that is embarassing...great boxers would get smashed. Nobody in their right mind is gonna try and stand with them, take your time, shoot in and finish the job. that's why it's MMA, you can't have just one skill. This topic is overdone btw...

Someone brought up the point that comparing the two was like comparing apples and oranges, and he couldn't have been any more correct.
You can not have these two side by side, or up against eachother. Whoever said Roy Jones or any of the like would smash an MMA fighter, you are definitely wrong.

This is an easy one in my opinion.
In the boxing ring and under straight boxing rules any top boxer would destroy most mma fighter's but in a mma fight under full mixed martial art rules it would be all the mma fighter taking the boxer down and finishing him with a submission or gnp.

In Splinter post he asks, "Do you think that any professional boxer would even have a slight chance versus an average (not good) MMA fighter?
Professional vs not good should be the answer in itself. If they were both evenly skilled in there styles, then we would say the MMA fighter would win. So we dont think an average MMA (not good) fighter could win against a Professional boxer.
