Default PPV is killing boxing!

In my opinion, Pay Per View is KILLING boxing. They are charging ridiculous amounts now to watch a fight. You are now paying anywhere between $30.00 - $100.00 for regular fights and title fights.

Its sad, you can no longer watch a nice title fight. The only thing on TV now are the awful amatuers or fighters with 29-50 fighting records. There's nothing more exciting, and now we have to pay?

I think this is absurd. If anything, they should charge the same price that HBO charges. $10.00 a month. As a matter of fact they should have a subscription channel dedicated to boxing, hell they got one dedicated to video games now.

What do you guys think?

In britian i think we do have a channel that features boxing events but it is not dedicated to boxing. I also agrea with your point that boxing is losing its wow factor which it used to have. Back when fighters such as fraizer and sugar ray where still boxing people got their moneys worth with a fight and they where exciting.

I agree..but to a certain point. I think that paying for it has greatly increased the sport because the funding for it has nearly quadrupled, and its become more of an "exclusive" sport, rather then something everyone can get their hands on.

Also, with the payment, you know you're getting premium fights. You know what you you're going to see, and that the fight is going to be amazing. You don't have to worry about seeing a retarded fight on public television.

However, there are the cases (and I remember once) when I paid $40.00 for a PPV fight. It was over in 2 minutes (I can't remember the fighters...Tyson? Holyfield? Someone help...). I was pretty dissapointed, but I had money on the fight, so i was able to make it all back and some.

Fastest $300.00 I've ever made in my life.

What I do think PPV should do is give more fights for its price. For instance, Pay $40.00 and get 2 back to back fights, OR they can just charge cheaper prices. It's ridiculous with what prices they are doing right now.

Also, I believe there IS a fighting channel being made, as well as a poker channel (but that's for another topic).

I agree too. But there are also many things in life that operate the same way. Best thing I have been able to do it get some buddys together and split the cost. I know it does not solve the problem. But it does help on the cost issue.

I once paid for a prince nazeem fight a long time ago. It wasn't cheap either (Rip off Britain) and it lasted I think it was 43 seconds before naz' opponents coach threw the towel in.

It soured my opinion on boxing.

However, could the media be clouding an honourable and entertaining sport and pass-time with it's capitalist bullshit?

The problem is that People started to not watch boxing on TV. In order to compensate, PPV had to increase rates to cover the lost customers. Then more people left, PPV increased even more, etc. Its a never ending cycle. Pretty soon we will be able to watch Fights on cable

To be honest I think the PPV guys are making a nice healthy profit - enough to keep the big bouts PPV. Cant see any change in this for quite a while

As long as we pay it they will keep on charging these high prices. But I can't see everyone stopping watching the fights now as big as things have gotten.

To be honest I am not a big boxing fan but it is a case of supply and demand. People want to watch these high profile bouts so the TV companies can put a huge premium on them and make a killing. People must be paying this fee in high enough volume because the PPV is increasig if anything and if PPV wasnt making them money they would not bother.
