SURVEY: Communication among MMA Practitioners
Hey guys,
I’m writing a paper for graduate school concerning communication in mixed martial arts and its practices (Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). Specifically, I’m writing about the following:
1. How the MMA practitioner communicates to his or her coach and fellow classmates.
2. How the MMA practitioner communicates about their practice to those outside the discipline.
3. How the MMA practitioner finds meaning in practicing martial arts.
4. How the MMA practitioner communicates that meaning (through words, physical demonstration, etc.) to other people.
If you could take a little time out of your day to answer the next five questions, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Question 1 – What does your discipline/practice mean to you on a personal level? In other words, why do you personally practice martial arts?
Question 2 – How do you communicate that meaning to other people? Is it through words, physical demonstrations (i.e. sparring with somebody, demonstrating the proper form of a kic, etc.), or just how you act in general?
Question 3 – Where do you see yourself in your practice 5 years from now, 10 years from now, 20 years from now?
Question 4 – How would you describe your relationship like between your coach and/or your students?
Question 5 – Finally, how would you describe what you do and why you do it to a total stranger who is oblivious the practice of mixed martial arts?
Thanks for your time guys. I really appreciate it.
