Default Boxing Champ accepts Dana Whites Challenge

From mmaweekly.com

In a prepared statement, Main Events CEO Kathy Duva announced that IBF World Welterweight Champion and former high school and college wrestler Kermit Cintron would like to step in and accept the challenge from UFC President Dana White that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has refused.

After some negative comments about mixed martial arts and the UFC in particular by Mayweather, White threw out a challenge for the undefeated boxing champion to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk in an MMA bout. Sherk’s weight class is defined at 155 pounds, while Mayweather’s most recent bout against Oscar De La Hoya was at 154 pounds.

“I want the fight,” said Cintron. “I can wrestle. I can box. I can beat those UFC fighters at their own game. Tell Mr. White to make me an offer and I’ll take on his guy after I fight Matthysse...”

Cintron is referring to a mandatory defense of his IBF title against challenger Walter Mattysse on July 14. The fight is scheduled to take place on the Arturo Gatti vs. Alfonso Gomez fight card on HBO.

It’s not difficult to connect the timing of Cintron’s statements with the build-up for his fight against Mattysse in Atlantic City, N.J. It should be noted, however, that the IBF champ is also ranked the #7 welterweight boxer in the world by The Ring magazine, with a record of 27-1 (25 knockouts). He also competed in wrestling in college and finished 10th in the National Junior College Wrestling Championships.

All i have to say is, finally. A boxing champ says he will fight in MMA, it would have been nice to see Floyd Mayweather accept but then why would he? He made about $30,000,000 off of his fight with De La Hoya. I doubt that Dana White will ever pay someone that kind of money to fight.

Yeah it would of been nice to see mayweather except the challenge but whatever. This guy might of wrestled in college and he may be a pro boxer but little does he know this is mma. Sherk will immediatley shoot and work on a relentless ground and pound leaving this poor soul bloody on the mat. Though i know little of his boxing or wrestling i can pritty much gurantee that the take down would inevitible and his ground defense would most likley be very poor. Sherk would dominate from start to finish which would probably finish in the first round.

That is exactly why i want to see this fight. Boxers and boxing commentators andfans all say just how incredibly deadly a boxer is compared to an MMA fighter with there hands. They say that when someone come for a take down that the boxers striking would be so good that he would easily be able to catch the guy on the chin in the process.

That's what they say. Now we get to see what really happens, if the boxer will in fact get the KO or if like you say MATT the MMA guy takes him down and pounds him out or submits him.

I guess this may settle that other thread we have going!! In a way Mayweather got punked in 2 ways. 1. He wouldnt accept so he looks like a pussy 2. Another boxer stepped up and did accept making Mayweather look even more like a pussy haha. I really dont think a Boxer is going to have "that" much of an advantage in the punching aspect. Most MMA guys train a hell of a lot on boxing. Pretty much any MMA fighter.... besides maybe Royce Graci haha.... has the ability to knock someone out from a punch.
Unless Cintron does a hell of a lot of sub defence and working on his guard before the fight he's gonna be in a world of trouble.

The only problem I see happening is if Sherk try's to stand up with the guy to show that MMA guys can box. I mean... IF Sherk knocked him out that would unfuckingbelievable and would rock the boxing world. In all reality though Sherk should just shoot in and take him down. Give him a few elbows and then sumbit him in the most painful way possible. I cant wait to see this.

Yeah, Sherk should take this fairly easily. Sure the guy may have wrestled in college, but do you think he has since. Sherk by submistion at 2:16 of the first round.

i'm not going to say this guy will not win but the chances are he will not.

becuase he has never been in a octagon, never been slamed into the ground and had a guy beat the crap out of him.

he has his punchers shot but . depending who he fights he going to be slamed hard into the mat and pounded or submitted.
