Depends on how active you are, and the purpose of cutting the weight.
1000 is low, real low, you should be taking in more calories than that imho if youre at least moderately active. If you're training you should be cutting your calroic intake by 500 calories until your body is used to it and plateau's. Then you cut another 500 and so forth, it has worked for me in the past, and my body doesn't suffer. Caloric intake should start off around 1800-2000 if you're looking to cut weight, but this is ideal for me.
Trial and Error is best, but take in good protein, and 6 meals a day, so your body keeps burning. Definately take in more meals more often of good calories, with 3 litres of water a day.
