i can say for absolute certainty that there is no way to physically tell if someone is on steroids from just how he looks. You'd be shocked at who is juicing and who isn't. Tim sylvia? please. I think even rogan said sylvia mentioned taking them to get a better 'look' and that obviously failed miserably.

that said, i'm not doubting anything said in the OP

oh
and i would like to see a melding of the rules a bit. I'd like elbows on the ground, but i also like knees and kicks to downed opponents. I think the UFC 5 minute rounds make for faster pacing in a fight as a fighter can't wear someone down for 3-5 minutes, THEN start their real offense. UFC requires fighters to be offensive far more often. I think 'that' hurt crocop as much as the elbows on the ground. with 3 5 minute rounds that are judged evenly, a fighter has to pace himself more offensively. there is simply less time to get things done and every second counts.

I do wish UFC would change their judges. I think the 3 round 10 point system really sucks. I kinda wish they would base it on the whole fight..mainly so tim sylvia won't win anymore...I also think they need to get a more specialized judging system. Jabs and headkicks probably shouldn't count the same...take downs aren't counted by some and are counted by others, takedown stuffs aren't counted by some and are by others, and it's just hard to know what a judge is thinking when you get some of these decisions, ala hammil/bisping.

That said, i think steroids in pride may have had an effect on a lot of their fighters in the transition to the UFC, but i think the rule changes and strategy changes play just as important of a role.
